NMR TO RESUME OOTY-COONOOR TRAIN SERVICE TOMORROW

The Salem Division of Southern Railway has taken steps to resume the service of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) between Ooty and Coonoor from Saturday.

The partial resumption happens after the NMR services were fully cancelled on March 20 following the lockdown in the nation’s fight against Covid-19.

According to railway sources, The Nilgiris Collector Innocent Divya has approved the resumption of service from Oct 10 between Ooty and Coonoor following their request on Oct 1.

Hence, from Saturday, four trains will operate between Ooty and Coonoor daily.

Train No: 56141 will depart Coonoor at 7.45 am and arrive at Ooty at 9.05 am. Train No: 56139 will leave Ooty at 9.15 am and arrive at Coonoor at 10.25 am. Train No: 56143 will leave Coonoor at 12.35 pm and arrive at Ooty at 1.50 pm. Train No: 56137 will depart Ooty at 2 pm and arrive at Coonoor at 3.10 pm.

Reservation for these trains will be resumed.

Since tourists have been allowed to enter The Nilgiris the NMR tries to serve the tourist interest within the district of The Nilgiris. However, the train service between Coonoor and Mettupalayam will continue to remain suspended.

The railways will follow social distancing and other necessary safety measures against Covid-19.
