P S SUNDAR @ Coonoor
The number of COVID-19 positive cases breached the 800-mark in The Nilgiris on Saturday as 36 new cases were added to the list.
The Nilgiris Collector Innocent Divya said that some of them would be shifted to the list of other districts as these persons belong to those districts but had come to The Nilgiris.
The total stood at 802 of whom two had died earlier. As many as 650 have been discharged leaving 150 active cases under treatment.
Of the 36 new cases of Saturday, eight had attended a wedding in Thangadu Oranalli village. They live in Kadanad, Kulicholai, Attanai and Adhigaratty.
Six are contacts of a person coming from Madurai and the live in Sholur and Kuruthukuli.
A new cluster seen to be developing in the last few days is the Defence establishment sources in Wellington where people come from other districts and States for training and other works. On Saturday, five such persons reported positive. Although most such cases would be shifted to the list of their respective districts and States, the need for allowing such visits during the ongoing lockdown and retaining such positive persons in The Nilgiris though under isolation has come for question.
A woman aged 53 living in Rajani Nagar Coonoor and 19-year-ol boy in Guernsey who had visited Coonoor market and developed contact with a driver who had been to other districts tested positive.
Two persons from Kollimalai who had visited Govt Hospital in Ooty have got infected from a driver who had been to other districts.
Two persons in Cherambadi got infected from a person in Sultan Bathery.
Three women living in Doddacambai, Theettukkal and Gudalur got infected from already infected persons.
The rest are visitors from other districts and likely to be shifted to the list of their respective districts.
