BAN ON USING FOR JOY RIDE THE RACE RETIRED HORSES
Express News Service @ Coonoor
The Nilgiris Collector Innocent Divya, who is also the President of Nilgiris SPCA, announced on Wednesday complete ban on the use for joy ride by tourists of those horses which have retired from racing.
She said that henceforth, a fine of a minimum of ₹ 50,000 would be imposed on those found to be using such horses for joy rides. The horse would be sent to an infirmary for further care.
The Collector said that such users have been violating the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act as there is ill treatment and lack of required care for the horses.
The horse owners do not provide the animals with sufficient food, drink and shelter but force them to fend for themselves by eating from garbage bins, she regretted.
